As we begin a new year, The Evergreens Foundation is looking ahead with a renewed focus on stability, service, and long-term sustainability.
While the past year marked an important milestone for the organization, this year is about continuing the work – building on what we’ve learned and strengthening the services we provide to our communities.
With eight years completed in our 10-year strategic and capital plan, the Foundation has experienced meaningful growth and positive change. This progress reflects the dedication of our board, staff, and partners who continue to support safe, affordable, and supportive housing across the region.
Strong Governance and Board Leadership
The Evergreens Foundation is guided by a Board of Directors made up of representatives from our member municipalities. This year marks an important transition for the board, with four of six members newly appointed, bringing fresh perspectives while maintaining continuity through returning members.
Anthony Giezen (Yellowhead County) and Winston Delorme (MD of Greenview) continue their service on the board, providing valuable experience and institutional knowledge. They are joined by new board members representing the Town of Edson, Town of Hinton, Town of Jasper, and Parkland County.
The current Board of Directors includes:
- Al Schram – Town of Edson
- Anthony Giezen – Yellowhead County
- Brian LaBerge – Town of Hinton
- Winston Delorme – MD of Greenview
- Kathleen Waxer – Town of Jasper
- John McNab – Parkland County
Together, the board provides strong governance, oversight, and strategic direction to support the Foundation’s long-term goals. This balance of continuity and new leadership positions the organization well as it moves forward into the year ahead.
Investing in Our People
Our employees are central to the services we provide. Over the past year, the Foundation focused on strengthening people practices through updated policies, improved training, and modernized systems that reduce administrative workload.
By investing in staff well-being, clarity, and professional development, the organization supports a positive workplace culture – one that enables employees to deliver consistent, high-quality service to residents and tenants.
Responsible Financial Stewardship
Sound financial management remains a priority. The Foundation continues to meet all audit and reporting requirements while modernizing financial systems to improve efficiency and transparency.
Recent improvements include streamlined payroll and payment processes, expanded training to build internal capacity, and careful planning to ensure funding is used effectively to support housing services now and into the future.
Managing and Maintaining Our Housing Portfolio
The Foundation actively manages and maintains its housing assets to protect long-term value and ensure safe living environments. This includes planning and overseeing capital maintenance projects, managing contractors and consultants, and working closely with funding partners.
A strong focus on preventative maintenance, risk management, and strategic planning helps ensure housing assets remain sustainable and responsive to community needs.
Looking Ahead
As the year unfolds, The Evergreens Foundation remains committed to continuous improvement, strong governance, and responsible growth. With the guidance of its board and the dedication of its staff, the organization will continue working toward safe, affordable, and supportive housing for the communities it serves.
This new year represents not just a fresh start, but a continued commitment to the people and places that make our communities home.
